As a young girl, I’ve always had a fascination with Alaska, with the thought of having a homestead and living off the land. I thought of the magic that I would somehow adopt and using it to commune with animals. Alaska was my realistic equivalent of a magical kingdom. That, and Montana (For a city girl, these were magical unbelievable places for me). 

The Snow Child is my Alaskan fantasy. With the foundation of a Russian folktale, Eowyn Ivey constructs a novel that gives a barebones fairytale flesh and blood.
